January 9, 2018 Plant Select

Presented by Sonya Anderson, Denver Botanic Gardens – Sonya will be presenting on “Plant Select”. The presentation will cover a brief history of the Plant Select program as well as the latest Plant Select introductions. The Plant Select program seeks to identify and promote plants that are highly suited to gardens located in the high plains and the mountains of Colorado.

February 6, 2018 10 Things Not to Do In Your Landscape

Presented by Craig Miller, Castle Pines North Metropolitan District, Parks and Open Space Manager –Some of the worst landscape care practices will be illustrated in this talk. This is your comprehensive guide to over watering, over planting, herbicide misapplication, tree abuse and inappropriate species selection.

March 6, 2018 Hummingbirds of the Front Range

Presented by Tom Bush, owner of the Front Range Birding Company – Hummingbirds are the second largest family of birds in North America. You can expect at least four different species to visit backyards in the Denver area. What kind are they? What do they eat? Where do they migrate? And how can I make them come back? Tom will answer these questions and more, including how to create a natural habitat for these important pollinators. Don’t miss out on the hummer fun!

April 3, 2018 House Plants You Didn’t Know you needed

Presented by Luanne Akin, Garden Ambassador, Tagawa Nursery – Luanne will talk to us about house plants, and why we need them in our homes.

• Tagawa gift cards may be purchased at the workshop, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to our club.

• At this meeting, club members will vote on the slate of officers for the 2018-2019 fiscal years.

May 1, 2018 Gardening with Native Plants and Pollinators

Presented by Deryn Davidson - CSU Extension Horticulture Agent, Boulder County. Deryn’s passion for native plants and pollinators grew during her time as a horticulturist at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. She will talk to us about her training in design and horticulture to help people discover new ways to incorporate native plants into their home landscapes and support our important pollinators.

June 5, 2018 DCGC Annual Plant Sale

Going once, going twice, SOLD to the highest bidder! Have you been thinking about thinning your plants in your gardens? This would be a perfect time to thin your gardens and bring the plants to sell. Proceeds will go to the DCGC.

September 11, 2018 “Legendary Ladies” presentation at Colorado Agriculture Leadership Foundation (CALF) **

CALF provides educational programs and provides support in “Connecting Kids to Agriculture”. CALF is also one of DCGC’s community projects. The “Legendary Ladies” will give a presentation in costume, making history come alive on the unconventional women who made their mark on the West.

** This meeting will be at the CALF location, which is at the Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek on the East frontage road south of Castle Rock.

October 2, 2018 “Ask a Master Gardener”

Presented by Susan Harden and Frank Silici,Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners. Club members will have an opportunity to write a question on an index card at the August meeting or e-mail questions for a Master Gardener to Kathe Jackson at kathejackson@yahoo.com by September 1st . Questions will be submitted to Susan and Frank a month in advance so they can prepare your answers for their presentation in October.

November 13, 2018  Bulbs in Container Gardens & Talents and Treasures Holiday Bazaar

Presented by Peter Esseveid, President of Swart & Company, a distinguished provider of the world’s finest flower bulbs and service since 1935. Peter will have only 20 to 30 minutes to answer questions you might have regarding flower bulbs planting, growing, starting in containers and forcing, etc. Immediately following Peter’s presentation, we will start our Club Holiday Bazaar. The sale of holiday items you may have made or purchased will be sold. All proceeds of the sale will go to DCGC to help procure speakers for the following year.

December 4, 2018 Annual Holiday Luncheon & Gift Exchange
