Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, Colorado, unless otherwise stated. Visitors are welcome!

January 3, 2017 Garden Grown Medicinal Plants   

Presented by Blake Burger,

Horticulturist, Denver Botanic Gardens


Medicinal plants have been identified and used throughout history and are one of the oldest forms of medical treatment. Blake Burger will share his vast knowledge on the variety of medicinal plants and their uses.

March 7, 2017 Native Plants

Presented by Beth Scott & Karen Bishop


We live in a high desert climate, and many gardeners have an interest in landscaping with native plants. Beth and Karen will teach us the many benefits of including native plants in our gardens and give us ideas on how to include them in our landscaping plans.

April 4, 2017 Composting Workshop at Tagawa Nursery

Presented by Luanne Akin

Luanne is a favorite presenter of our garden club. She always has great information to help us become better gardeners.


She will give us the ins and outs of composting, which will include why to compost, the tools to use, and what items are compostable, then harvesting and using your compost. Tagawa gift cards may be purchased at the workshop, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to our club. This is the Club’s annual meeting so club members will vote on the slate of officers for the new fiscal year.

May 2, 2017 Native Colorado Bees

Presented by Mario Padilla,

Entomologist, Butterfly Pavilion


To Bee or Not to Bee that is the question? Beekeeping is becoming a popular trend in Colorado. Whether you want to be a keeper or just want to encourage these little pollinators in your garden, Mario has many years of experience and will give us an introduction to our native bees and how important they are to our food source.

June 6, 2017 Douglas County Garden Club Plant Auction

Going once, going twice, SOLD to the highest bidder! Who will outbid whom at this fun event? Have your plants ready for this fun filled annual fundraiser. We have lots of friendly bidding wars. This is a must attend event.

July 11, 2017 Annual Herb Luncheon

August 1, 2017 Creative & Abstract Floral Design

Presented by Joy Kancir, National Garden Club Accredited Flower Show Judge & our own Douglas County Garden Club member. – If you think floral design is using traditional placement of flowers and foliage, this presentation could definitely be an eye opener. Abstract and Creative Design uses nontraditional containers, line material and placement of flora and fauna.

September 12, 2017 Colorado Agriculture Leadership Foundation (CALF)**

Presented by Kim Roth, Director of CALF Education – CALF is one of DCGC’s community projects. CALF provides educational programs and provides support in “Connecting Kids to Agriculture”. Kim will give our club an update on how CALF is making a difference in our community.

**This meeting will be at the CALF location, which is at the Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek on the east frontage road south of Castle Rock. Wear comfortable shoes and wear sunscreen. We will have a tour of the grounds.

October 3, 2017 Mt. Goliath

Presented by Amy Schneider, Denver Botanic Gardens – Mount Goliath is a mountain peak section of the Mount Evans natural area located outside of Idaho Springs within the Arapaho National Forest. Amy will talk to us on the experience of the highest cultivated garden in the U.S. This garden is managed by Denver Botanic Gardens in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service.

This day will be the DCGC Cash and Dash fundraiser. Bring items to sell.

November 7, 2017 Urban/Container Gardening

Presented by Mario Bertelmann, Denver Botanic Gardens – Mario will be giving us insight on spectacular designs in urban container gardening. This illustrated talk will offer ideas for beautifying our urban gardening. Even though it is winter in Colorado, what a perfect time to attend a presentation on gardening and start thinking about spring and summer vegetables and flowers!

December 5, 2017 Annual Holiday Luncheon & Gift Exchange
