Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, Colorado, unless otherwise stated. Visitors are welcome!

January 7, 2020 - Ten Great Plants that Challenge Colorado Gardeners

Our presenter for this class will be Carole Kastler, Landscape Designer and owner of Camelot Design.

February 4, 2020 - Market Bouquet Class

Presented by Karen Novotny, owner of Garden Path Company. Karen has been in Castle Rock area since 1991. She trained with master florists in Germany and Holland, taught advanced flower design in Denver. Her market bouquet workshop will cover how to best use bouquets that are in the mass market locations. Karen will talk about value, freshness and how to take a market bouquet and make it your own look. This is an interactive workshop, she welcomes questions and open discussion. She also invites you to bring any vases or containers that you would love to put flowers in but are challenging because of their shape, size. etc. Karen will offer suggestions as to the best way to arrange the flowers in them.

April 7, 2020 - Terrariums, Tagawa Nursery in Parker, CO

A presentation and demo on making Terrariums, presented by Luanne Akin, Garden Ambassador, Tagawa Nursery. Tagawa gift cards may be purchased at the workshop, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to our club.

**At this meeting, club members will vote on the slate of officers for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

May 5, 2020 - Working with What You Have – Landscape Solutions for Problem Areas

Our presenter for this class will be Craig Miller, Castle Pines Parks & Open Space Manager. It is not uncommon to have issues in your yard that can be challenging to overcome. Too much sun, too much shade, no focal point, a steep slope or hill and a host of other difficulties can plague your landscape. In this class we will provide solutions for three common problems. Join us as we cover some of the best plants for slopes, wet areas and privacy and screening.

June 2, 2020 - DCGC Annual Plant Sale

Going once, going twice, SOLD to the highest bidder! Have you been thinking about thinning your plants in your gardens? This would be a perfect time to thin your gardens and bring the plants to sell. Proceeds will go to the DCGC to help procure speakers for the following year. Our best sale to date was our 2018 sale where we profited $1194.00.

August 4, 2020 - Dr. Corey Campbell, Bee Specialist

Presented by Dr. Corey Campbell, bee specialist. Dr. Campbell and his family have been keeping bees at the CALF Lowell Ranch for the past 5 years, as well as maintaining an observation hive and harvesting honey as part of the CALF program. He will share information on the growth and habits of honey bees, and what you can do to help these pollinators.


September 8, 2020 - Craig Miller

Presented by Luan Aikin, Tagawa Nursery. As the days grow shorter, our gardens will wither and brown. In order to have a successful garden next year, we must treat the beds and cut back on some of the perennials. Luan will address these issues at our September meeting.


October 6 - LuLu House, Terrariums and Fairy Gardens

Presented by Lorrie Hastings, Lulu’s House. These miniature gardens are small landscapes filled with small plants, and trinkets designed to “attract” fairies to your garden. It’s simple to get started, and customizing the garden with special touches is where the magic lives. You don’t even have to believe in fairies, but if you do, even better. During the October meeting, Lulu will give some fun ideas that will inspire and nurture your creative side. November 3, 2020 - Preserving Our Forest and Homes

Presented by Jill Welle, Senior Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Douglas County. As more people build homes, operate businesses and recreate in areas where wildlands border urban areas, wildfire threats to properties and lives increase. Wildfire mitigation is the implementation of various measures designed to minimize the destructive effects a wildfire has on your property. Learn what makes homes susceptible to ignition and combustion and what steps residents can take to better protect their homes.


December 1, 2020 - Winter Floral Arrangements

Presented by Karen Novotny of Garden Path, a creative floral design company located in Castle Rock. Using inspiration from the natural world around us, Karen will demonstrate floral design for the winter season.


January 5, 2021 - Zen Rose Arrangements

Presented by Parker Blooms. Zen arrangements are more about beauty, balance and mindfulness than interior décor or accessorizing the home. Parker Blooms will show how to make arrangements to evoke tranquility, enlightenment and a sense of harmony with their striking simplicity.
