Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. in the Philip S. Miller Library, 100 S. Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, Colorado, unless otherwise stated. Visitors are welcome!

January 8, 2019 - Basic Houseplant and Succulent Propagation

Presented by Barbara Bates, Colorado State University Extension County Director and Horticulture Agent for El Paso County.

Barbara will give a PowerPoint presentation lasting about 40 minutes, with a demonstration on making stem and leaf cuttings.

The cuttings will be given as door prizes.

February 5, 2019 - Market Bouquet Class

Presented by Karen Novotny, owner of Garden Path Company, and has been in Castle Rock area since 1991. She trained with master florists in Germany and Holland, taught advanced flower design in Denver. Her market bouquet workshop will cover how to best use bouquets that are in the mass market locations. Karen will talk about value, freshness and how to take a market bouquet and make it your own look. This is an interactive workshop, she welcomes questions and open discussion. She also invites you to bring any vases or containers that you would love to put flowers in but are challenging because of their shape, size. etc. Karen will offer suggestions as to the best way to arrange the flowers in them.

March 5, 2019 -  Seed Starting Class

Presenter to be Determined —This class will let us know when the best time is to start seeds, depending on if the seeds are for flowers or vegetables as well as what lighting and temperatures are required for seed starting.

April 2, 2019 -  Kokedama, Tagawa Nursery in Parker, CO

Kokedama presentation and demo, presented by Luanne Akin, Garden Ambassador, Tagawa Nursery. After her presentation there will be an optional hands on workshop for a fee of ($25).

• Tagawa gift cards may be purchased at the workshop, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to our club.

• At this meeting, club members will vote on the slate of officers for the 2019-2020 fiscal year.

This meeting will be at the Tagawa Nursery off Parker Rd. in Parker, CO

May 7, 2019 -  Latest Trends in Landscape Design

Presented by Andie Wommack, Colorado State University Extension Horticulture Agent for Douglas County. Water conservation is becoming more and more of a focal point in landscaping conversations. Therefore, trends in home landscaping are moving toward water conscious plants and design. Whether you are putting in a new landscape or renovating an old space, these are some great tips for planning your new landscape design.

June 4, 2019 -  DCGC Annual Plant Sale

Going once, going twice, SOLD to the highest bidder! Have you been thinking about thinning your plants in your gardens? This would be a perfect time to thin your gardens and bring the plants to sell. Proceeds will go to the DCGC to help procure speakers for the following year. Our best sale to date was our 2018 sale where we profited $1194.00.

July 9, 2019 -  Annual Herb Luncheon

Presented by Kate Hogan, Community Outreach Coordinator from the Denver Audubon Society.

September 10, 2019 - “Cheese Making & Tasting Demo” at Colorado Agriculture Leadership Foundation (CALF)

Presented by Kim Roth, CALF Programs Manager since 2013. Kim will show us how to make cheese and at the end there will a tasting. We will be sending out an e-mail in August for you to RSVP for this demo, so we will have an accurate count of those planning on attending so there will be enough for tasting. 

CALF provides educational programs and provides support in “Connecting Kids to Agriculture”. CALF is also one of DCGC’s community projects.

**This meeting will be at the CALF location, which is at the Lowell Ranch on Plum Creek on the East frontage road south of Castle Rock

October 1, 2019 - Making Wreaths & Swags using Dried Flowers

Presented by Muffy Sander of Sander Ranch Flowers located in Castle Rock, CO. Muffy is an extraordinary floral designer with 15 years’ experience in the floral industry. She has had a passion for flowers and design all her adult life. Gardening and raising beautiful flowers in her yard, then using them in her designs is something she gets excited about. And she loves to share her creations with you.

November 12, 2019 - Talents and Treasures Holiday Bazaar

The sale of holiday items you may have made or purchased will be sold. All proceeds of the sale will go to DCGC to help procure speakers for the following year.

December 3, 2019 - Annual Holiday Luncheon & Gift Exchange

Location: The Ridge @ Castle Pines North Golf Club

Celebrate the Season with good friends and cheer at our annual Holiday Luncheon and gift exchange. The luncheon is the perfect opportunity to get to know our club members and establish lasting friendships.
